A MaBE második pécsi találkozója az ELTE, BME, MATE, SOTE, Debreceni Egyetem, valamint a Pécsi Tudományegyetem főként biotechnológus-hallgatóinak részvételével zajlott október 1-je és 2-a között. A rendezvény hivatalos nyelve az angol volt, amely a magyar hallgatók és a nagy számban jelenlévő külföldi hallgatóknak is előnyére vált.

A szombat délelőtti előadás-sorozatot Dr. Nyitrai Miklós, a Pécsi Tudományegyetem Általános Orvosi Karának dékánja nyitotta meg, amiben felhívta a figyelmet az interdiszciplináris tudományok, azon belül is a biotechnológia jelentőségére a tudományban.

Ezután Kiss Benjamin, a MaBE elnöke röviden bemutatta az egyesületet és annak előnyeit. A különböző egyetemekről és biotechnológiai cégektől érkező szakemberektől pedig izgalmas témákról hallhattunk előadást. Armbruszt Simon a SoftFlow ügyvezető igazgatója bemutatta cégük profilját, illetve, hogy milyen üzleti megfontolások állnak egy-egy új projektjük hátterében, komoly különbségekre hívva fel a figyelmet az akadémiai kutatások és az üzleti célú kutatás-fejlesztés között.

Dr. Apáti Ágota a humán pluripotens őssejtek terápiás alkalmazási lehetőségeiről beszélt. Dr. Szekeres Júlia, a Humán Reprodukciós Nemzeti Laboratórium kutatója szakterületének újabb kutatási területeiről adott elő. Dr. Pap Marianna a genetikailag módosított vírusok terápiás alkalmazásáról tartott előadást. Krisán Eszter, a Startup Plastic Surgery képviseletében érkezett; tájékoztatta a hallgatóságot a szervezet új programjáról, mely az egyre sürgetőbb műanyag-problémára keres megoldást.

A program lényege, hogy lelkes fiatalokat toborozzanak, akik egy jó ötlettel pályázatot nyerhetnek, amely pénzügyi támogatással és Startup cég-alapítási lehetőséggel jár. Telek András rövid előadásában bemutatta a Servier nemzetközi gyógyszercéget, akik a rendezvényt is szponzorálták, majd a kutatóintézetben végzett munkájukat. Az eseményt Szőke András előadása zárta.

A manapság egyre elterjedtebb 3D nyomtatás technológiáját, azon belül is a bioprinting-et, valamint ennek egészségügyi lehetőségeit mutatta be. Speciális nyomtatókkal ma már képesek élő sejtekből komplex szövetszerű struktúrákat, sőt, akár szerveket, kisebb testfüggelékeket, például fület nyomtatni.

Az ebéd után a MaBE Közgyűlése következett, melyen a tagok, valamint minden meghívott is részt vehetett. A délután folyamán a PTE Szőlészeti és Borászati Kutatóintézet támogatásának jóvoltából borkóstoláson vehettek részt a hallgatók.

Vasárnap reggel a PTE Immunológiai és Biotechnológiai Intézetben hallgathattuk meg Dr. Balogh Péter professzor előadását a tanszéken végzett antitest-előállítás, illetve az élet-halál kérdéskör kapcsán. Majd megfigyelhettük, ahogy egér embrióból izolált szívizomsejtek néhány sejtes csoportulásban egy műanyag flaskában „dobognak”.

Ebéd után a PTE Szentágothai János Kutatóközpontban tehettünk látogatást, ahol az ország legmodernebb BSL4-es (BioSafetyLevel) laborja is található. Idő szűkében azonban csak az intézet fejlett készülékparkjának néhány csúcstechnológiás rendszerével ismerkedtünk meg.

A második pécsi találkozó sikerét a sok vidám arc és a remek új ismeretségek is bizonyítják. Köszönjük mindenkinek, aki jelenlétével emelte az esemény színvonalát, várunk mindenkit a következő eseményen!

The second meeting of the MaBE in Pécs took place between October 1st and 2nd, with the participation of mainly biotechnology students from ELTE, BME, MATE, SOTE, the University of Debrecen, and the University of Pécs. The official language of the event was English, which benefited both the Hungarian students and a large number of international students present.

The series of presentations on Saturday morning was opened by Dr. Miklós Nyitrai, dean of the General Medical Faculty of the University of Pécs. In his opening speech, he drew attention to the importance of interdisciplinary sciences, including biotechnology.

Then Benjamin Kiss, the president of MaBE, briefly introduced the association and its advantages. We could hear lectures on exciting topics from specialists from various universities and biotechnology companies. Simon Armbruszt, the managing director of SoftFlow, presented the profile of their company and the business considerations behind each of their new projects, drawing attention to the significant differences between academic research and R&D in the business framework.

Dr. Ágota Apáti spoke about the therapeutic application possibilities of human pluripotent stem cells. Dr. Júlia Szekeres, a leading researcher at the National Laboratory of Human Reproduction, presented new research areas in her field. Dr. Marianna Pap lectured on the therapeutic use of genetically modified viruses. Eszter Krisán came on behalf of Startup Plastic Surgery, an initiative for boosting the creative ideas of resolving the increasingly pressing plastic problem; she informed the audience about the organization's new program aiming to recruit enthusiastic young people who can win a tender with a good idea, which comes with financial support and the opportunity to establish a startup company.

In his short presentation, András Telek introduced the international pharmaceutical company Servier, a major sponsor of the event, and their work at the research institute. The event ended with a presentation by András Szőke. He presented the increasingly common 3D printing technology, including bioprinting, as well as its healthcare possibilities. With special printers, they can now print complex tissue-like structures from living cells, organs, and smaller body appendages, such as ears.

After lunch, the General Assembly of the MaBE followed, where the members and all invited guests could participate. During the afternoon, thanks to the offering of the Research Institute Viticulture and Enology, the students could participate in a wine tasting.

On Sunday morning, at the Department of Immunology and Biotechnology, we could listen to the lecture of Professor Péter Balogh regarding the antibody production carried out in the department. Then a mesmerizing experiment was demonstrated, raising questions about the definition of life and death: we could observe how heart muscle cells isolated from mouse embryos "beat" in a few cell clusters in a plastic flask.

After lunch, we visited the János Research Center of PTE Szentágothai, where the country's most modern BSL4 (BioSafetyLevel) laboratory is located. However, due to time constraints, we only got to know a few high-tech systems of the institute's advanced equipment park.

The success of the second meeting in Pécs is also proven by the many happy faces and great new acquaintances. Thank you to everyone who raised the standard of the event with their presence; we look forward to seeing you at the next event!
